Why I'm blogging Star Trek: The Next Generation (STTNG)

My wife got me into Star Trek: The Next Generation right after we got married. We bought all 7 seasons on DVD and dove right in. I seriously enjoyed that time getting to know a side of my wife that had to be experienced with her. And I got hooked on the show. We've watched a few favorite episodes here and there since then, but have never cranked through the entire series... until now. I'm going to reflect on the redemptive themes here as we explore the galaxy with the crew of the Enterprise.
My favorite thing about the show, and arguably what the entire show is all about, is the camaraderie of the senior staff. There is a level of trust and I've-got-your-back-ness that saturates everyone on board. There are so many story lines where the only thing that saves the crew is their trust for each other.

I've been thinking a lot about community lately. I'm involved with a team at church that is trying to create a really great environment where our members can connect, grow and go in the word. I've also been through a significant period of growth this past year where I've sort of gone through a crash course on friendship. I've learned a lot about what it means to really listen. and the importance of giving and receiving love. and how to process emotions in the context of meaningful relationships. These ideas are what's going to be on my mind as i watch STNG this time around.

There is also a lot of science and religion stuff in the show. I may touch on that. It's an area I'm very interested in, but I'm not sure how much I'll write about it.

I'm not going to be synopsizing the episodes either. Information like that is redealy available here.
